Hey there, friends! My name is Emily and I am an outdoor enthusiast/husky guide from Little Rock, Arkansas. Arkansas? Yes, Arkansas.
After working on a husky farm in Lapland for 2 winters I decided to apply to an international wilderness course offered in Finland. While I was accepted, the timing was off and I ended up working for an electronic medical record company called Epic for a year. Realizing I was slipping further and further from my dreams, I applied to the course a second time and whala! After completing my degree in wilderness guiding, I have been working at Hetta Huskies in Lapland and spending my summers hiking and breaking things (like my leg).
A lot of my blog covers life during my wilderness course, but it is also about my transition from a life of conformity to a life of freedom, from a life of four walls and fluorescents to a life of wilderness and sunlight. I have always known that I was meant for nature, but it took me a while to figure out how to leave my life of rules and regulations. I completed my thru-hike of the Appalachian Trail summer of 2015 and am looking forward to my next big adventure. But for now – the huskies are howling so it’s another season of winter wonderland and infinite darkness.
Feel free to follow my adventures.
From Arkansas to Lapland – must be a real adventure!
